October 6th--The Sevier Co RTA met at Applebees. The devotional was provided by member Nancy Simms. Sevier Assistant Superintendent for Student Services was the guest speaker. Mr. Ogle provided an update of all the options that are available for Sevier Co students and teachers. A brief memorial was held for the SCRTA members that were lost this past year. December 2, 2023-- The Sullivan Co. RTA met on December 2nd at Sullivan Central Middle School and held their December Christmas luncheon meeting. Jan Maiden read the devotional. Seasonal Christmas music was provided much to the enjoyment of the members.
Kim Wilson, McKinney Vento Homeless Education Program Family Involvement Center Coordinator, served as the guest speaker. She spoke of the services her agency provides. Kim also said that the homeless population in the system is 3%. She also provided ways that SCRTA can help the agency.
SCRTA Project Coordinator Nancy Holland coordinates the Family Involvement and Oasis projects. Money and items are collected each month to assist children and those living in cars, parks, and camps. Oasis assists homeless women by purchasing supplies for laundry and
personal hygiene products. All members can participate in these worthy projects. -- Report submitted by

The Sullivan County RTA held their annual fall picnic on Thursday, September 7 at the Lake Lodge at Steele Creek Park in Bristol. There were over 80 members and guests in attendance. The Piney Flats Dulcimer Band provided beautiful entertainment. The County buffet and dessert was scrumptious (much to the delight of everyone). SCRTA President Angela Shaffer organized a wonderful program with the entertainment, delicious food, and door prizes. Al Doty introduced the speakers and welcomed everyone. TRTA President Elect Dwayne Emert gave a rousing speech about the awesome job that past and current teachers do each day in public schools. SCRTA collected donations to donate to OASIS - a service project to purchase soaps, detergents, and necessary supplies for the homeless women’s shelter.
Sept. 8 – Sumner Co. RTA met at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall for a General Membership meeting. The new Sumner Co. School Director, Dr. Scott Langford, was the guest speaker. --Theresa Dowell-Fuqua reporting.
