Tennessee legislators returned to Nashville on Tuesday, January 14, to begin the work of the 2025 Legislative Session, and House and Senate members were sworn in at that time. Gov. Bill Lee called for a SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE SESSION to begin on Monday, January 27. The special session will discuss three items:
1. Hurricane Relief (potential $450 million package)
2. Immigration measures to improve public safety, and
3. VOUCHER Expansion (also known as Education Freedom Act)
This special session has only 72 hours to debate these issues! The Voucher bill appears to have strong support in the Senate chamber, but less so on the House side of the General Assembly.
It is imperative that you contact your local legislators and let them know that vouchers are not a good deal for community schools and public education.
