Membership in TRTA shall be open to any person who has been active in the teaching profession as defined by the 1972 Tennessee Consolidated Retirement Act or has been a teacher in a public, private, or parochial school and who pays the established TRTA dues as defined in Article II, Section 2,  of the TRTA Constitution.

Any educator who retired before September 1, 1992, will have the option to join or not join NEA-Retired in subsequent years.


Any educator who retires after August 31, 1992, and seeks membership in TRTA or NEA-Retired, must join the NEA-Retired, TRTA, and the Local RTA as a unified member if membership is available.

  TRTA members shall have full voting privileges, and the right to hold office.
The annual TRTA membership dues must be approved by the TRTA  Board of Directors and the delegates to the Representative Assembly.

The TRTA membership year will be from July 1 of any given year to June 

30 of the following year.

   Upon written request, dues may be deducted directly from the member's monthly check through pension reduction.  This is the preferred method of payment.

 To pay dues, please make your check payable to TRTA and mail it with the membership form to Tennessee Retired Teachers’ Association, 801 Second Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37201-1099.

   NEA-Retired Lifetime Membership.................$300 

NEA-Retired Annual Membership...................$35 

TRTA Annual Membership..................$25

Regional Dues

 Local RTA Annual Membership dues are determined by the Local 

Association.

The local RTA treasurer collects regional dues annually and forwards them to the region’s treasurer no later than July 31.
