April 9, 2024--Memphis-Shelby County RTA did not have a general membership meeting this month because of the annual WTRTA meeting held in Jackson, TN. This year’s meeting was hosted by Jackson-Madison County with Rose P. Anderson presiding.
The first guest speaker was Dr. Nathan Lewis, principal of JCM Early College High. He spoke on education at JCM Early College High and opportunities for diversified students. The second guest speaker was Stephanie Winfrey, Health Care Insurance Manager BCBS. She spoke on senior health matters.

March 14, 2024--The Memphis-Shelby County RTA's March general membership meeting was held at the Memphis-Shelby County Board of Education auditorium.
The sign-in table along with the birthday & door prize table were decorated by Arlene Wilson, Attendance Committee chairperson. February 8, 2024--The first meeting of the new year for the Memphis-Shelby County RTA was held February 8, 2024, in The Memphis-Shelby County Board of Education auditorium.
Hosts from the Attendance Committee for this month were Sharon Maclin and Annie Miller. Both ladies decorated the sign-in table and birthday-door prizes table.
Cupcakes to celebrate January and February birthdays were provided by Ms. Maclin’s daughter, Attorney Angela Denise Williams. (Previous months were provided by Arlene Wilson’s son, Keath Myles Wilson.)
The guest speaker, Glenda Patterson Jones, a representative of NEA Member Benefits, provided valuable information during her engaging presentation.
January 10, 2024--Congratulations to the 2024 Don Crader Book Scholarship for Education recipients! This scholarship was presented by scholarship committee members of the Memphis Shelby County Retired Teachers Association to Kelsea Washington and Xavier Wade on January 10, 2024, at the Benjamin Hooks Central Library.

December 22, 2023--Memphis Shelby County RTA started a new project for 2023. During the December general membership meeting, members donated 190 pairs of socks, bars of soap, and toothbrushes with toothpaste. The items collected were given to Graceland Rehab and Nursing Facility on December 22, 2023, to help spread joy and comfort to those in need.
December 14, 2023--The Memphis Shelby County RTA met on December 14, 2023, in the Memphis Shelby County Board of Education Auditorium. To celebrate the holidays, our special guest Dr. Steevon Hunter (Principal of Kirby High School) provided holiday music for everyone’s enjoyment. Members participated in a rousing rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and a holiday sweater contest. Monthly door prizes were awarded and December birthdays were celebrated. For our new project, socks were collected at this meeting to donate to a senior facility before Christmas Day.

Holiday Sweater Contest
Lunch Outing 11/2/23--On November 2, 2023, some of the members of MSCRTA met for lunch at Chow Time wearing our organization’s t-shirt. It was an enjoyable time socializing together outside of the monthly membership meetings.
October 24, 2023-- The Monroe Co RTA met on October 24th and held their regular meeting at Bert’s Hometown Grill in Madisonville. The devotional was read by member Edna Stephens.
Sweetwater Hospital Association Human Resources Officer Beth Makowski served as the guest speaker. Beth discussed advances inpatient care.
MCRTA was recognized for their recent membership growth. The members voted to support Madisonville Friends of the Library through a donation-driven ongoing service project. Kim Townson representing MCRTA would present a donation check to the Co-chairperson of the Friends of the Library Jan Johnson and librarian Kim Hicks in early November. --Report submitted by Janet Tweed.
