June 10, 2024--The Henderson County Retired Teachers enjoyed an impressive program by the American Legion Post 77 at the June 10th meeting. They presented a program on the flag and what the thirteen folds mean to us. President Judy Sanders was presented with the flag and the commander thanked the retired educators.
HCRTA voted to present $100.00 to the American Legion to assist with their expenses in providing military funerals and educating the community in patriotism.
Miles Roberts with the Homeless Coalition spoke at our December 11, 2023, meeting. We presented him with a donation.
In December the Henderson County Retired teachers were entertained by Lexington High School nation and state Beta chorus winners. The chorus is led by Jaivel Walker. The HCRT moved to make a donation to support the LHS Beta.
Sept. 12 – Hickman Co. RTA met at Homestead Restaurant for a regular membership meeting. The guest speaker was John Mullins, the new Hickman Co. Schools Director. --Shirley Coates reporting

April 9, 2024--The West Tennessee Retired Teacher Association meeting was held in Jackson TN on April 9, hosted by the Jackson-Madison County Local Teachers' Association. It was held at T. R. Sportsplex with Rose Anderson presiding. Locals attending were Benton County, Gibson County, Hardeman County, Henderson County, Memphis-Shelby County, Tipton County and Jackson-Madison County. Dr. Nathan Lewis, Principal of JCM Early College High spoke on the Opportunities Early College High provides a diversified student population and successes. Health supervisor Stephanie Winfrey gave updates on Senior Health Matters - Insurance. Ted Williams of Tipton County and Legislative chair shared updates of the legislative program. New Officers for the WTRTA were installed. President-Dr. Charles Green, Memphis-Shelby; President-Elect- Daisey Cleaves, Tipton County; Secretary-Martha Fayne, Tipton County; and Treasurer.

Jackson-Madison County Retired Teachers held their October meeting at the North Side Lions Club with "Fall Fest with a Halloween Flair" being the theme. Elaine Holmes, 2nd Vice President presided.
Member Mona Lisa Lanier, also a dance instructor from Mona Lisa Lanier School of Dance held a Halloween dance contest featuring the "Hussle, Electric Slide, Cha Cha" and more. Elaine Holmes was the dance winner. Other winners were for best Halloween food, Barbara Forrest, and best Halloween Costume, Jean Carnes.
Members in attendance had an energizing time participating in the dance line, fellowshipping with food being served, and receiving retired association information and updates from TCR.
Our give back to the community is providing a donation to RIFA's School Backpack Program. The next JMCRTA meeting will be the third Thursday in February 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at the North Side Lions Club. --Gwendolyn Whitelaw, President.
