Tennessee Retired Teachers' Association

On September 17, 2023, the Chester County RTA met at Snookum’s Restaurant in Henderson for a general

business meeting. Brandon Cooper, the EM Agency manager of Chester Co. was the guest speaker. Chester Co. RTA signed up two new members!-- Martha Lewis reporting.

•  The Clarksville-Montgomery Co RTA held their meeting on September 21 at the First Missionary Baptist Church. President Joyce Johnson conducted the meeting. Member Margaret Pace gave the devotional. Guitar music was provided by Leo Adames. Each member was asked to share stories about some of their most memorable teaching moments. These stories will be published in a book by Jostens. The theme for this year is “CMCRTA CAN DO!” Report submitted by Joyce Johnson. 

• The Clarksville-Montgomery Co RTA conducted their annual “Back to school” activity this fall. Individual members purchased and donated items for the activity. Each member was asked to bring their school supplies to the Teacher Warehouse. Some items that were donated were crayons, pencils, notebook paper, folders rulers and spiral notebooks. Over 30 members took part in this wonderful event! 

• Clarksville Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association members collected socks to be distributed to three charities. 

The Dickson County RTA met on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Colton's Steak House. Guests were Christy Southerland from the Board of Education Office, Lt. Jessica Blackwell, and Sgt. Eric Chandler of the Dickson Police Department. 

Mrs. Southerland shared some part time job opportunities available for retired teachers to tutor at risk students. Lt. Blackwell and Sgt. Chandler shared some reports of scams targeting the elderly that had been reported to their office recently.

Each DCRTA member attending brought small toys, books, and puzzles and these were presented to Lt. Blackwell and Sgt. Chandler to be used to help calm children that they encounter when answering calls to crisis situations.

• The Dickson Co RTA met on June 6 at Colton’s in Dickson. The scholarship winners were present for the luncheon and discussed their plans for each of their future. The devotional was given by Arminta Miles who serves as the vice-president. Meeting report submitted by secretary, Debbie Hensley.
