December 2, 2023--The Jefferson Co RTA met on December 2nd at the Jefferson City Library and held their quarterly meeting. Member Susan Cooper read the devotional. Susan also used Guidepost's "Joy of Christmas" and gave out “I Care” heart gifts. Recipients of our Active Teacher Grants 2023 served as the guest speakers. The speakers described how they used the grant money they received to purchase graphic novels for 5th grade students, field trips, a pottery experience for Spanish students, and a drone for JROTC. The JCRTA members brought festive foods and treats for everyone to enjoy. --Report submitted by JCRTA President Cindy Stelzman.
September 6, 2023 – Jefferson Co. RTA met at Shoney’s Restaurant in Dandridge for its regular quarterly meeting. The director of the Isaiah House for Jefferson County Foster Care System was the guest speaker. --Cindy Stelzman reporting
The Johnson County RTA met on August 16 at Jen’s Café on Main Street in Mountain City. Jenny Manuel, County Historian, served as the guest speaker. She provided a great overview of the history of Johnson County. Meeting report submitted by Secretary Elaine Moore.
March Luncheon--Dewayne Emert gave us an overview of the proposed legislation that affects public schools. Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch and spending time with friends. We welcomed two new members to our association.
November--The Knox County Retired Teachers' Association held their annual scholarship awards luncheon on Thursday, November 16, at the Foundry on the World's Fair site.
The meeting room was packed with KCRTA members and the scholarship recipients. The KCRTA Scholarship Foundation has awarded over $78,000 to area college recipients since 2019.
Past President Libby Burney welcomed the group before they enjoyed a wonderful lunch. Scholarship co-chairs David Huntsinger and Christine Oehler praised the committee members for their hard work and welcomed the scholarship recipients and their guests.
September--The Knox Co RTA held their September meeting at the Foundry in Knoxville. The devotional was read by President-Elect Mary Brockett. Members of the Tennessee General Assembly were invited and attended the meeting. David, Riggs, and Massey and other answered questions from the floor by members. Two primary questions were in relation to the Third Grade Retention Law and Federal Funding. The meeting report was submitted by Mary Brockett.
